NEW SAN CARLOS BRANCH LIBRARY HOURS

All San Diego Public Libraries will be CLOSED on SATURDAY, September 4th in celebration of Labor Day.  There will be no First Staturday of the Month Book Sale in September due to the holiday.

STARTING MARCH 20, 2010, due to city-wide budget cuts, the hours of operation of all San Diego Libraries are being reduced.  The city-wide library budget was reduced by $3.8 million.

The San Carlos Branch Library’s hours will be:  

Sundays & Mondays:  CLOSED

Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 12:30 - 8:00 pm

Thursdays & Fridays: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm

Saturdays: 9:30 am - 2:30 pm

CINEMA SAN CARLOS

Due to the generocity of the San Carlos Friends of the Library, in 2009, Youth Services Librarian, Eric Chamberlin was able to purchase for use in the Community Room, a full size movie theater screen and projector.  It was first used for the 2009 Youth Summer Reading Program.  Because of the tremendous success of this program, it was expanded to offer families and adults, free movies throughout the year.  This program now has three components:

FAMILY FUN TIME occurs on Thursdays at 3:00 pm.  These movies are all rated G or PG-13 and are appropriate for all ages.  Starting June 24, 2010, these films will be shown at 2:00 pm as part of the Youth Summer Reading Program until September 1.   

ADULT and YOUNG ADULT films are shown on Tuesdays at 5:45 pm.  These are appropriate for mature teens and adults.

Starting Tuesday, June 15 at 3:00 pm, as part of the Teen Summer Reading Program ,anime MOVIES will be shown until September 14th.  Wii Games will be played on our 14 foot wide screen every Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

These programs are brought to you by our Youth Services Librarian, Eric Chamberlin, and sponsored by the San Carlos Friends of the Library.  Are you a member?  Join Now!  Eric is also, currently, the acting head librarian and is available 5 days a week.

PRESCHOOL READING PROGRAM:   Friday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Community Room of the San Carlos Library. Starting June 18th and ending August 13th, this time slot will be filled with MAGICAL ENTERTAINMENT as part of the Youth Summer Reading Program.  This program runs for 9 weeks and is open and FREE to Youth of all ages from pre-school thru high school.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON MOVIES: Family Fun Movies ( PG & PG-13)  are shown Thursday afternoons at 3:00 pm in the Community Room of the San Carlos Library.  As part of the Summer Reading Program, these movies will be shown at 2:00 pm starting June 24th.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM:  Here is the information on this annual event for children and teens.  This program runs from June 15th through August 15th.  Prizes–sponsored by SCFOL–are awarded for each reading level attained by each child.  Fun entertainment and reading programs occur weekly.  See you there!  This year’s theme for children is Make a Splash at Your Library, and for teens it’s “Make Waves at Your Library.  Click on the links below for complete information on each program.

TEENS–COME JOIN THE FUN:   On Tuesdays at 3:00 pm, watch series anime movies in the Community Room on our giant screen.  From June 15th -July 27th, enjoy Full Metal Alchemist, and from August 3rd - September 14th, enjoy Ergo Proxy.  Play Wii Games on our 14 foot wide screen every Wednesday at 2:00pm.  Additional Films are shown on Tuesdays at 5:45 and Thursdays at 2:00.  Check the schedule of movies above under “Cinema San Carlos”.
