Local Authors, Speakers & OASIS
Each month, the SCFOL sponsors lectures with local authors or community speakers. These lectures take place at different times and on different days in the San Carlos Library’s Community Room. The Community Room is the first door on your left when entering the library from the left side. It may also be accessed through the double doors located on the left hand wall of the library in the Children’s section.
See the “Speaker’s Schedule” under Speakers or the Event Calendar for the specifics on this month’s speakers. We encourage all of the community to join us in getting a “back stage” look directly from local authors at what went into the material gathering, writing and publishing of their books. Their subject matter ranges from historical novels and mysteries to cook books and poetry. A little something for everyone. Please join us for a free, interesting and relaxing time.
We also offer speakers who have a variety of services to offer our community. The topics cover travel and places of interest to health and safety, as well as investment and career information.
If you are a local published author or speaker and would like to share your book or expertise with the community on a more person level, please leave a note with the San Carlos library personnel for our Programs Chairperson. Include your name, mailing address, phone number/e-mail address, and the book’s title. You may also contact us at [email protected] .
We are also now presenting OASIS programing. These programs will be offered on the third Friday of the month, in the Community Room. Times will vary. OASIS is a national education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and older through lifelong learning and service. They offer programs in the arts, humanities, health, technology and volunteer service for a nominal fee. However, programs presented at the San Carlos Library are fully underwritten by SCFOL and are FREE to the public. You may register for these and other classes on line at www.oasisnet.org , but attendance at any of the courses offered at the San Carlos Library does not require previous registration. However, space is limited, and those previously signed up for a particular course, either at the library or through OASIS will be seated before walk-ins. See the OASIS Schedule under ”Speakers” to find out what is being presented this month. If there is an OASIS program you would like offered at the San Carlos Library, please contact [email protected].
