About Us
Welcome to the San Carlos Friends of the Library Website. On this site you can find the schedule of current events to be held at the San Carlos Branch Library, how to become a member of SCFOL, or how to donate your time, talent, books, or money to the library.
The San Carlos Friends of the Library is a completely volunteer group. Each branch library has such a group dedicated to helping its own branch library as well as the entire library system. We do this by sponsoring monthly Used Book Sales on the first Saturday of each month and having a select number of titles available for purchase at the library on a continual basis. This is a major source of revenue to support the library. Please stop by next month and browse our ever changing titles. Paperbacks are only 3 for $1.00. Books you may wish to donate for the book sale may be dropped off right inside the door of the library during regular business hours.
We also produce a Newsletter which will keep you up to date on all of the happenings at the San Carlos branch library. This is mailed to the home of each SCFOL member. Why not become a member today? Applications are available at the library, and on this website.
SCFOL also supports local artists by sponsoring an “Artist of the Month” showing of his/her work in the Community Room of the library. This is located through the double doors on the left wall of the Children’s section of the library. It may also be accessed by entering the library through the door on the left side of the library. Please check out the beautiful artwork next time you visit our branch, and vote for your favorite art work by placing your vote in the “People’s Choice Award” box which hangs on the wall amongst the paintings. The winning art work is then displayed in the main library room for an additional month for all to enjoy. Most artists will have an “artist’s reception” on the 3rd Saturday of the month where you can meet the artists.
Each month, we invite local authors or organizations to speak about their latest book or the services that they can offer the community. These lectures are held in the Community Room. We also offer FREE OASIS programs on the third Friday of the month.
There is available, for members only, and a rental fee of only 25 cents per day, a list of new release titles and Great Courses DVDs. These are available at the library.
We sponsor an annual writing contest for students at each school level. Every year, San Carlos students are winners at the city wide contest at each represented grade level. Way to go!!!!
SCFOL also assists the Library by financially supporting its Youth Summer Reading Program and other special programs.A new San Carlos Branch Library is still in the planning stages, but the SCFOL will have a strong supporting role in the planning and developing of an award winning branch library. Won’t you please join the SCFOL and become a part of the future?
